Overview
Ekatvam Innovations is a social startup, working in the agri-water sector, with an aim to ensure participatory water management in rural ecosystems.
Rural population depend on local water sources like, wells, hand pumps, rivers and canals apart from other inland water resources including numerous reservoirs, tanks and ponds. Although India receives plenty of water as rainfall during monsoon, due to lack of storage only a small percentage of that water is actually added to the reserve.
Challenges
The current addressable issues in the water governance tools is their inadequacy of bringing scattered data onto single platform particularly in the domain of the community who are its users. Limiting the entire exercise to just showcasing water availability and demand and not engaging the stakeholders to participate and create water security plans.
Information and decision making are highly centralized leaving very little scope for the community to participate and engage in developing water resilience
Solution
Ekatvam’s service model aims to follow a multi-stakeholder collaborative approach by enabling bottom-up participatory planning process. The solutions are as follows:
Triangulating data
From different sources using remote sensing technologies, IOT etc. and bringing them onto one platform. A data collection portal is also in place for the fieldworkers to fill in specific information
Simplifying data collection
Process through web based portal maintaining cloud-based information storage for easy access to historical data.
Showcase the status of water availability
The various factors that affect its quantity on a web-based dashboard. for viewing water status of village and designing interventions
